Tafon Nchukwi vs Carlos Ulberg scheduled for UFC Fight Night 208

We’ve got s truly spectacular showcase going down in just over a month at UFC Fight Night 208, as former kickboxers Tafon Nchukwi and Carlos Ulberg face one another in a light-heavyweight bout.

UFC Fight Night 208 is to go down on June 25, 2022, at a to-be-determined venue.

This is going to be such an interesting watch, both of these talents have solid, elite fundamentals on the feet, and both boast a considerable amount of power in their diverse attack.

Tafon Nchukwi (6-2 MMA, 12-1 kickboxing) vs Carlos Ulberg (4-1 MMA, 19-2 kickboxing)

Tafon Nchukwi made his mixed martial arts debut in March of 2019, and quickly won his first three bouts, capping off with a knockout over fellow future UFC talent William Knight, who was 6-0 with six knockouts himself.

Nchukwi was just 2-0 going into that bout, and he followed this up with a second round knockout victory en route to signing with the UFC at just 4-0 (all knockouts). He then made his UFC debut in December of 2020 with a unanimous decision victory over Jamie Pickett.

This was followed up by a majority decision defeat to Jun Yong Park, before he’d win another unanimous decision, this one over another dangerous striker in Mike Rodriguez.

But, the Cameroonian talent was KO’d early in round three of his latest outing against fellow knockout artist Azamat Murzakanov, a fight he was handily winning and looking great in, bringing his record to 6-2.

Then we have Carlos Ulberg, who made his mixed martial arts debut in August of 2011, winning the bout via second round knockout. He’d take a long break from the sport to focus solely on kickboxing, but would return in December of 2018 to secure another victory, this one via unanimous decision.

Ulberg then, like Nchukwi, won his Contender Series bout with a vicious knockout in November of 2020, and he’d make his UFC debut a few short months later with a record of 3-0.

Though he’d lose his promotional debut to highly touted prospect Kennedy Nzechukwu via KO in round two of their Fight of the Night winner, he’d rebound with an incredible performance over another touted prospect in Fabio Cherant, defeating him via unanimous decision, improving his record to 4-1.

Prior to their MMA careers, each of these talents had very successful kickboxing tenures; Nchukwi going 12-1 in amateur Muay Thai, becoming a two-time WKA national champion (2016, 2017), and a 2016 WKA world champion, and Ulberg going 19-2 in professional kickboxing, becoming a two-time King of the Ring champion (2017, 2019).

Nchukwi stands 6′ tall with a pretty astounding reach of 77”, while Ulberg stands 6’4” with that same reach of 77”.

Both have fought at heavyweight and light-heavyweight through their short MMA careers, and Nchukwi has fought as low as 185 lbs two times in his eight fights, and both came to the UFC with less than an handful of MMA fights.

We’re seeing their early evolution right in front of our eyes.

It’s so exciting these two have been matched up together, but, it’s a shame one of them has to lose.

Who do you see coming out of this light-heavyweight encounter on top?

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
