Tai Tuivasa vs. Marcin Tybura booked for UFC 298
The shoey king is back! On February 17th, Aussie fan favorite Tai Tuivasa will return to action and face Marcin Tybura on UFC 298. The heavyweight bout will be on the under card of Alexander Volkanovski vs. Ilia Topuria in Anaheim, California.
Tai Tuivasa: Recent woes
After a massive five fight winning streak, Tai Tuivasa gained critical acclaim after knocking out fighters such as Derrick Lewis and Greg Hardy. The wins saw Tuivasa skyrocket up the rankings with a shoey to boot for each win.
Since that Lewis win, it’s been nothing but woes for Tuivasa. Ciryl Gane, Sergei Pavlovich and Alexander Volkov have all handed “Bam Bam” a loss.
Now Tuivasa looks to rebound against a stylistically tough Marcin Tybura who is coming off of a loss as well.
Marcin Tybura: Bounce back
Marcin Tybura hasn’t had as rough of a skid as Tai Tuivasa. His last fight saw a two fight streak broken when Tom Aspinall, the new interim heavyweight champion, run through him in just over a minute.
Before that, Tybura beat Alexandr Romanov and Blagoy Ivanov in back to back fights. Tybura is a long tenured UFC vet with wins over Andrei Arlovski and Greg Hardy.
A win for either fighter will not have major implications on the UFC’s heavyweight division. Tuivasa will want to snap his three first skid and make his case for not getting cut by the UFC again and Tybura will want to start making his way to the title.
UFC 298 approaches and with Tuivasa vs. Tybura booked, it looks like it will be a fun one. Topuria gets his shot at featherweight gold by taking on Volkanovski. Merab Dvalishvili and Henry Cejudo was just booked for a great bantamweight scrap and Anthony Hernandez is taking on the tough task in 15-1 Ikram Aliskerov.
