Tank Abbott talks liver transplant, dying 5 times on operating table, 6 strokes

UFC legend and former World Championship Wrestling star David “Tank” Abbott” talks about the health issues he has had in recent years leading to him ultimately having to get a liver transplant and dying 5 times on the operating table during the procedure. The operation has led to him losing 100 pounds and quitting alcohol.

Abbott’s MMA career began at UFC 6 where he fought three times in one night. He defeated John Matua by way of knockout just 18 seconds into the fight and then defeated Paul Varelans by TKO less than two minutes into the fight. Abbott would lose later in the night to Oleg Taktarov by way of rear-naked choke. Abbott’s last fight with the UFC was in 2003 at UFC 45 where he would suffer a TKO loss to Wesley Correira. He later defated “Cabbage” by knockout at Rumble on the Rock two years later.

Other notable fights that Tank Abbott participated includes those against the likes of Kimbo Slice, Dan Severn, Vitor Belfort, Don Frye, Pedro Rizzo, and Frank Mir.
