Exclusive: Virna Jandiroba vs. Tatiana Suarez is in the UFC’s plans for the August 5 card in Nashville. Number six in the UFC 52kg ranking, the Brazilian is coming off a win over compatriot Marina Rodriguez, while Suarez, #10, is coming off a win over Montana De La Rosa.
Suarez (9-0) recently returned to the Octagon after a four-year layoff and picked up a submission win over Montana De La Rosa up at flyweight. The former TUF winner has competed most of her career at 115lbs, but she moved up to 125lbs for her comeback fight. However, she has previously stated that she expected to move back down to strawweight, and that looks to indeed be the case in this matchup.
Jandiroba (19-3) is coming off of back-to-back wins over Marina Rodriguez and Angela Hill to bounce back following a loss to Amanda Ribas. She has been using her wrestling to get success as of late, and her win over Rodriguez really shot her high up the rankings at 115lbs. However, the UFC is going to give her a tough stylistic matchup with Rodriguez, who has some of the very best grappling in the women’s divisions.
Look for Suarez to be a sizeable favorite for this fight given the hype behind her and the style matchup at play, not to mention having the size advantage now that she’s back down a weight class.
