Teofimo Lopez vs. Sandro Martin: Reputation’s on the Line
Super lightweight marks new frontiers from Teofimo Lopez. After defeating Vasyl Lomachenko for a undisputed unification fight, Lopez was on top of the world. He lost to George Kambosos Jr. in what should have been a victory lap after a year off. After the shocking upset, Lopez set his eyes on super lightweight and the kings there.
After the major upset, Teofimo Lopez took on Pedro Campa in his super lightweight debut. There, Lopez put in seven rounds before getting a TKO over his tough and game opponent. Now he sees his sights on Martin, a tough out with a decent resume.
Don’t think Sandor Martin is a pushover for Lopez. At 40-2, Martin boxes intelligently and is a tough out. After being around for years, Martin had the opportunity to take on Mikey Garcia and defeated the Mexican legend by majority decision. He looks to play upset for Lopez.
The winner of this fight will be on the shortlist for future unification bouts. Josh Taylor is rumored to rematch Jack Catterall father the two fought to a controversial decision that went Taylor’s way in February of 2022. Then there is Regis Prograis who has just captured a belt against Jose Zepeda and has stated that he’d be open to fighting Teofimo Lopez in the future as well.
