Thiago Santos vs. Glover Teixeira to headline UFC’s Sept. 12 event

A light-heavyweight matchup between Thiago Santos and Glover Teixeira will headline the Sept. 12 UFC event.

First reported by ESPN, Santos will make his long awaited return to the octagon after spending close to an entire year away from competition. 

Santos is coming off a split decision loss to Jon Jones at UFC 239 in July 2019. He is the first fighter to earn a winning scorecard against the longtime reigning champion.

Santos sustained injuries to both his knees during the fight, leading to long layoff following double knee surgery.

Teixeira is fresh off a fight-round TKO victory against Anthony Smith at UFC on ESPN +29 on May 13. He survived an early onslaught from Anthony Smith, but wore down the former title challenger in the later rounds.

At 40 years old, Teixeira is riding a four-fight win streak with wins over Smith, Nikita Krylov, Ion Cutelaba and Karl Roberson.

Also on the Sept. 12 event is a flyweight bout between Tyson Nam and Matt Schnell and a women’s flyweight rematch between Andre Lee and Roxanne Modaferri.
