Three fights added to UFC’s May 16 card

The UFC is continuing to book fights and now the promotion’s May 16 card just got a little bigger.

Don’Tale Mayes (7-3) will take on Rodrigo Nascimento (7-0) in a heavyweight matchup, Mara Romero Borella (12-7) meets Cortney Casey (8-7) in a flyweight fight, and Giga Chikadze (9-2) faces Mike Davis (8-2) at featherweight. Combate was first to report the upcoming bouts.

This is the third time Mayes and Nascimento were booked to fight. The previous two meetings were delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Mayes lost his UFC debut in October by submission. Meanwhile, Nascimento will be making his UFC debut after earning a UFC shot by picking up a win on Dana White’s Contender Series in July 2019.

Borella and Casey are both in needs of wins as both fighters have lost three of their last four fights. Borella is coming off back-to-back loss to Lauren Murphy and Montana Del La Rosa. Casey’s last fight came in February 2019 in which she lost to Cynthia Calvillo.

Chikadze will look to ride some momentum. He has won four straight, including his first two UFC fights. On the other hand, Davis will try to end Chikadze hot streak and pick up his second win in a row. This past October, he was able to finish Thomas Gifford with 15 seconds left in their fight.

The UFC’s May 16 event will be held at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Fla. with no fans in attendance. The card will air on ESPN and stream on ESPN+.
