Tom Aspinall explains why he wants to fight Tai Tuivasa next: “I’m a massive fan of his style”

UFC heavyweight Tom Aspinall explained why he wants to fight Tai Tuivasa next following his big win over Alexander Volkov at UFC London.

Aspinall picked up the biggest win of his MMA career to date when he tapped out Volkov with a straight armbar in the main event of last Saturday’s UFC London card. It was the fifth straight win in the UFC for Aspinall since signing with the world’s leading MMA promotion in 2020. By beating Volkov, Aspinall will move closer to the top of the division, as he’s currently sitting just outside of the heavyweight top-five.

The win over Volkov is massive for Aspinall’s career, not only in regards to name value, but also the impressive way that Aspinall finished the fight. It’s the kind of win that is going to push him even closer to getting a title shot at heavyweight. At this point, Aspinall is likely no more than one or two wins away.

At this point, there aren’t too many fighters who are ranked about Aspinall in the UFC rankings, but one of them is Tuivasa, who has won four straight fights by knockout. After finishing Derrick Lewis in devastating fashion in his last fight, Tuivasa is one of the top-three ranked fighters in the division, and if Aspinall can have his pick of anyone in the litter, then he would choose to fight Tuivasa next.

“I’m a big fan of Tai, big shout-out, Tai. The reason why I called out Tai is, first of all, I’m a massive fan of his style. Second of all, I’m a massive fan of his personality. The crowd goes wild when he fights. And apparently, the crowd goes wild when I fight. So me and him in the U.K., come on, bro. What a good time that would be. Let’s line it up for the next U.K. card. Get me and Tai on it, please,” Aspinall told the media following UFC London (via MMAjunkie.com).

Tuivasa called out former champ Stipe Miocic, but there is no guarantee the UFC books that fight. If they don’t book that fight, then the Aspinall fight makes sense, perhaps with the winner getting a title shot.
