UFC 226 Results – Stipe Miocic vs. Daniel Cormier for heavyweight championship
In the UFC 226 main event, UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic defended his title against current light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier. The two men coached opposite one another on this season’s Ultimate Fighter which concluded last night with the TUF 27 Finale. The July 7 pay-per-view fight card concluded the UFC’s annual International Fight Week celebration.
What an interesting night it was as former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar walked octagon side. The fight starts and Miocic seems to be too strong for Cormier. Then the fight temporarily stops for an eye poke by Cormier. Moments later it resumes and Cormier knocks Miocic out to become only the second two-division UFC champion behind Conor McGregor. Then Cormier calls Lesnar to the octagon and a cheesy promo is cut but what a surreal moment.
A co-main event and second title bout between current featherweight champion Max Holloway and challenger Brian Ortega was scrapped two days ago after Holloway was deemed medically unfit to compete. After several fights were rearranged the pay-per-view will continued with five fights as Paul Felder and Mike Perry were bumped up from their scheduled preliminary bout.
Heavyweights Derrick Lewis and Francis Ngannou were supposed to throw down in what could have been one of the best brawls in organizational history. Instead….. the worst fight of all time took place in the center of the octagon; so bad that UFC commentator Joe Rogan admitted on pay-per-view that it was the worst. Lewis wins a unanimous decision in a lackluster fight.
