Vicente Luque defeats Niko Price, UFC 249

UFC 249 results: Luque defeats Price in 3rd round shootout

UFC fights are back.
On Saturday night, May 9, UFC 249 takes place in Jacksonville, Florida following a two-month hiatus for the promotion.
Inside an empty Vystar Veterans Memorial Arena due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the card features two championship bouts. Interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson defends his belt against Justin Gaethje in the main event.
In the co-main event, bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo is up against Dominick Cruz, who returns to the octagon following a four-year layoff.
Niko Price squares off against Vincent Luque in the prelims at UFC 249. While Luque is the betting favorite in the fight, Price will have the height and reach advantage. Price is coming off a first round TKO against James Vick. Conversely, Luque looks to get back in the win column following a decision loss to Stephen Thompson.
in a back and forth match both Luque and Price traded shots and got very worn out throughout the entirety of this fight. In the end it was all about Luque’s big shot in the third round that ended prices run at the fight.

Round One:

Both fighters start out trading legs. Looks like they’re trying to establish a reach advantage early. Price is doing very well at getting some shots in early against Luque. Luque is willing to trade shots to land a big one against Price. Price scores the first take down with just over a minute left in the first round. Price continues to apply pressure in the corner while in top control. tough to call but I have to give the first round to price.

Price 10-9

Round Two:

Luque looks a bit slower this round. Price’s leg kicks are taking a toll on Luque’s calves.  Luque got a warning for illegal blows but nothing serious. Neither of these fighters are really caring about defense of strategies right now. Vicente popped Price halfway through the round but allowed Price to recover. This round could go either way. I have Luque winning this round 10-9. Should make for an interesting round three.

19-19

Round Three:

Both fighters know that this fight is still up for grabs. They come out swinging at the beginning of round three. Neither fighter willing to back down at this point. Vicente has started countering very well. Both fighters look tired and bloodied. This fight is exciting with both fighters standing in the center of the Octagon, neither fighter backing down. Luque lands a huge fist that drop Price. Price recovered on his back. Doctors stepped in and stopped the fight. Luque wins via doctor’s stoppage.

Luque wins via TKO (Rd. 3 – 3:37)
