The women’s flyweights and strawweight will also consist of three fights.

UFC 272 Fight Card

Who will fight at UFC 272? Early prelims begin with light heavyweights Michal Oleksiejczuk (16-4-0, 1 NC) versus Dustin Jacoby (16-5-1).

Jacoby is a 33-year-old U.S. mixed martial arts fighter from Fort Morgan, Colorado. Oleksiejczuk is a 26-year-old Polish MMA fighter who began his UFC career in 2014.

While Oleksiejczuk won two UFC fights in 2021, Jacoby finished with two wins and one draw.

Devonte Smith (11-3-0) will face Erick Gonzalez (14-6-0). Smith (or “King Kage”) is a 28-year-old fighter from the U.S. who won two fights in 2021, both in the second round.

Gonzalez got TKO’d in the second round at UFC Fight Night last year.

For the women’s flyweight division, a 35-year-old American, Jessica Eye (15-10-0, 1NC), will take on 32-year-old French MMA fighter Manon Fiorot (8-1-0). The two are evenly matched regarding height, weight, and reach.

Tim Elliott (18-12-1), a 35-year-old American, will face Tagir Ulanbekov (14-1-0), a 32-year-old Russian fighter in the flyweight division.

Rounding out the early prelims will be a featherweight bout between Brian Kelleher (24-12-0) and Umar Nurmagomedov (13-0-0). Nurmagomedov, a Russian, is ten years younger than his opponent.

The womens’ fights for the preliminary card include Maryna Moroz (10-3-0) versus Mariya Agapova (10-2-0), a flyweight bout. Marina Rodriguez (15-1-2) will take on Yan Xiaonan (13-2-0) for the women’s strawweight division.

Rodriguez won all three of her UFC fights in 2021, while Xiaonan lost one.

For the light heavyweight division, Nicolae Negumereanu (11-1-0), a 27-year-old Romanian fighter, will take on Kennedy Nzechukwu (9-2-0), a 29-year-old fighter from Nigeria.

In a well-balanced lightweight bout, Jalin Turner (11-5-0) will face Jamie Mullarkey (14-4-0).

UFC 272 main card fights include Kevin Holland (21-7-0, 1NC) versus Alex Oliveira (22-11-1, 1NC) in a welterweight bout and a featherweight matchup between Edson Barboza (22-10-0) and Bryce Mitchell (14-1-0).

Anjos (30-13-0), a 37-year-old Brazilian-American fighter, will face Fiziev (11-1-0), a 28-year-old Kyrgyzstani, for the co-main event. The two were scheduled for UFC Fight Night in February, but the match got canceled due to visa issues.

Fiziev went 5-1 in the UFC between 2019-2021. Anjos hadn’t fought in the UFC since 2020, when he went 1-1.

Covington vs. Masvidal makes up the main event at UFC 272.

Masvidal, a 37-year-old American, has a record of 35-15-0. Covington is a 33-year-old American who is a former Interim UFC Welterweight Champion. He lost to Kamaru Usman, the welterweight divisional leader, in 2021.

Usman defeated Masvidal last year at UFC 261 and UFC 251 in 2020.

Covington and Masvidal used to be friends and training partners. They were both affiliated with American Top Team, an MMA academy in Florida. But their relationship deteriorated to the point where they are now considered rivals.

According to Covington, he claimed that Masvidal got jealous of his former teammate’s success.

The two will square off for the first time at UFC 272.
