UFC Dublin in jeopardy
UFC Dublin could be in trouble
The UFC’s return to Dublin may have to wait due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The event is scheduled for Aug. 15, but the Irish government has now banned mass public gatherings of over 5,000 people until mid-September.
“Local authorities have been advised by Government that event promoters should be informed that events requiring licences in excess of 5,000 will not be considered for the period up to the end of August,” the government said in a statement published by Reuters.
There are no fights officially booked for card, but there are rumors of a middleweight bout between Darren Till and Robert Whittaker taking place at the event.
The fights can always take place with no crowd attendance, however that would take away from Ireland’s passionate fans. It would also be a financial loss as the UFC has sold out all three of their previous Dublin events.
One of the UFC’s biggest international cards came in Dublin when Conor McGregor headlined a UFC Fight Night in 2014.
