UFC eyes bantamweights Danaa Batgerel and Kyler Phillips for Oct. 3 event

A bantamweight matchup between Danaa Batgerel and Kyler Phillips is the latest target for UFC’s Oct. 3 event.

According to MMA Fighting’s Mike Heck, the two will meet on one of the promotion’s five events on “Fight Island,” Yas Island, Abu Dhabi.

Danaa Batgerel is fresh off his first octagon victory, a first-round knockout against Guido Cannetti at UFC 248 this past March. It came after a loss in his UFC debut, a unanimous-decision defeat to Heili Alateng at UFC on ESPN+15 in October 2019.

The Mongolian fighter won four of his last five bouts.

Kyler Phillips is coming off a “Fight of the Night” performance in his promotional debut. He defeated Gabriel Silva via unanimous decision at UFC on ESPN+27 in February.

He appeared on Dana White’s Contender Series and season 27 of “The Ultimate Fighter.” The first pick for Stipe Miocic’s team, Phillips suffered a majority-decision loss to eventual featherweight winner Brad Katona in the quarterfinals.

After the show, Phillips dropped a split-decision loss to Victor Henry at CXF 15 in October 2018. He rebounded with a first-round knockout over Emeka Ifekandu at LFA 59 in February 2019.

Phillips was expected to make his UFC debut against Ray Borg back in March 2019, but Phillips withdrew due to an injury. Now in the UFC, Phillips looks to go 2-0 inside the octagon.
