Nchukwi vs. Matavao eyed for DWCS on Sept. 8
A light heavyweight matchup between Tafon Nchukwi and Al Matavao is being targeted for episode six of the fourth season of Dana White’s Contender Series on Sept. 8.
MMA Junkie was the first to report the matchup, taking place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Nchukwi is undefeated at 3-0 and is yet to go into the third round with three TKO finishes. The 25-year-old accomplished all of this as a heavyweight. He also was undefeated as an amateur mixed martial artist, collecting three finishes in three fights on the regional scene between 2017 and 2018.
He will make his 205 pound debut against Matavao.
Most recently fighting at 225 pounds, Nchukwi finished UFC development deal fighter William Knight via first-round TKO at CFFC 80 in November 2019.
Tafon Nchukwi also put away Alex Meyers and AT McCowin.
Al Matavao is slightly more seasoned with an 8-2 record. He is riding a four-fight win streak, most recently finishing Collin Mansanas in 16 seconds at Destiny MMA on Feb. 23.
Like his opponent, Matavao is a proven finisher with six stoppages to his name.
