UFC Fight Night 82 results: Hendricks vs Thompson

UFC Fight Night 82 took place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and was headlined by a welterweight fight between Johny Hendricks and Stephen Thompson.

The event which was originally scheduled as UFC 196 lost the headlining pay-per-view main event of heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum vs. challenger, Cain Velasquez when both fighters revealed injuries.  As a result the card was renamed and available for free on FOX Sports 1.

In the main event, Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson made a case for a welterweight title shot when he defeated former champion, Hendricks inside one round.

It was an all around exciting card.  Derrick Lewis defeated Damian Grabowski in devastating fashion and it made the heavyweight division that much more exciting.

Mickey Gall held the proverbial lottery ticket in his hand as the 1-0 professional mixed martial artist had an opportunity to face CM Punk, the former professional wrestler turned mixed martial artist.  If Gall got a win over Mike Jackson (0-0) in the main event on the preliminary bouts on UFC Fight Pass, he would earn that shot against Punk later this year.  Gall did just that….. and in under a minute.  Gall and CM Punk then met in the center of the octagon, respected one another, and professionally set up their future bout.
