UFC on FOX 31 results – Iaquinta vs. Lee 2

The UFC will host it’s final event on FOX tonight from the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In the UFC on FOX 31 main event, a lightweight rematch between Al Iaquinta and Kevin Lee. The two men first met back at UFC 169 in 2014 where Iaquinta won the fight by unanimous decision.

The 12-fight event kicks off with bouts streaming live on UFC Fight Pass at 3:30 p.m. ET. Additional preliminary-card bouts follow on Fox Sports 1 at 5 p.m. ET, with the four-fight main card airing live on Fox at 8 p.m. ET.

A flyweight bout between Jessica-Rose Clark and Andrea Lee was scrapped from the fight card as Clark apparently passed out while attempted to make weight. Clark was deemed medically unfit to compete and sent to an area hospital for further evaluation. She has since been released.

Chris De La Rocha went into his heavyweight bout with Juan Adams as the smaller man in the fight and he came in himself at 253-pounds. Adams is a big man. Right out the gate the two heavyweights are teeing off. De La Rocha is cut very early on above his left eye and blood flowing. Adams is attacking the cut with jabs. The fight goes to the ground and Adams is landing vicious ground and pound. De La Rocha works for attacks on the leg following a sweep. De La Rocha makes it to the second round, a boost in his morale against the bigger opponent.

Round 2 starts and the pace has slowed immediately. Both men are tired but continue to fight back and forth. De La Rocha finding his shots but the cuts on his face are getting worse and the swelling is building. It’s a back and forth brawl. Adams drags De La Rocha to the canvas. Once on his knees, the ankle is pick and De La Rocha is on his back. The round ends with brutal ground and pound. Surprisingly doctors do not stop this between rounds and we make it to the third and final frame. Once there, the fight ends less than a minute in when Adams earns a TKO victory.

A light heavyweight fight paired Adam Milstead and Mike Rodriguez. Right from the start these two were swinging for the fences. Rodriguez drops Milstead. Milstead clinches him tight and tries to sweep his opponent but the cage gets in the way. They stand and again Milstead is hurt. A knee gets Milstead down to the canvas and Rodriguez gets the knockout win after he begins the ground and pound.  Milstead leaves his gloves in the center of the octagon, symbolizing his retirement from the sport.

Dan Ige and Jordan Griffin kicked off the FOX Sports 1 preliminary bouts. Great scrambles, strikes, submission attempts, from both competitors. This is a dog fight. Ige wins rounds one, Griffin wins two, and Ige comes back in the final round to win a unanimous decision.

The first round of the middleweight bout between Trevor Smith and Zak Cummings was contested entirely on the feet. Each fighter finding instances of success which resulted in both men receiving small cuts to the face. Cummings attempted a takedown by Smith did not allow for completion. This fight goes all three rounds with Cummings earning the unanimous decision.

What a first round between Jared Gordon and Joaquim Silva. Before the fight starts, commentator and UFC lightweight Paul Felder describes Gordon as one of his best friends and talked about his past addiction problems. The fight begins and Gordon seems to be too much for Silva, hurting him on the feet, slamming him down, working for submissions. Just seems in favor of Gordon. Then out of nowhere Gordon hurt by Silva who is coming on strong. The round ends with Silva choking Gordon with a standing guillotine. The second round more in favor of Silva. Both men a little bloody. Silva high on Gordon’s back, rolls and applies a knee bar with final seconds left in round. Gordon winces in pain. Horn sounds and we move to round three. Round three is an absolute back and forth brawl. The two men are just duking it out, standing toe-to-toe. About half way through the round Silva lights Gordon up and knocks him out on his feet. Incredible fight. Should be fight of the night.

Drakkar Klose and Bobby Green went the distance in a fight that might have been Green’s best performance to date. Despite his great showing, Green dropped a unanimous decision in the bout.

Zak Ottow picks up a close split decision in his hometown over a tough Dwight Grant. This fight honestly could have went either way.

In the first fight on the main card, lightweights Jim Miller and Charles Oliveira met in a rematch.  The two met years ago with the New Jersey native Miller getting the win.   Tonight would be very different.  Just more than a minute into the fight Oliveira submitted his fellow black belt by way of rear-naked choke.

The UFC aired a touching tribute to honor the last seven years that the organization has spent with FOX.  Tonight marks the final event before switching to ESPN in 2019.

It was not a good night for Roufusport tonight in Milwaukee after the team suffered multiple losses. Sergio Pettis dropped a unanimous decision to Rob Font in the second fight on FOX.

Oh my….. what is Daniel Hooker made of?  He took a massive beatdown from Edson Barboza who threw everything including the kitchen sink.  Barboza might have never looked better, finishes the fight in round three, crumbling him with a punch to the body.

The main event, the rematch between Kevin Lee and Al Iaquinta, goes the full 25-minutes.  Absolutely insane back and forth bout.  Such a close brawl. Going in to the championship rounds, coach Ray Longo tells Iaquinta that he needs to pull the trigger and throw the big shots.  Iaquinta listens and pulls through.  Great fight.  Iaquinta wins a unanimous decision.
