UFC Targets Masvidal vs Diaz II

It looks as if Masvidal vs Diaz II is in the works.

The date for the bout isn’t finalized as of this juncture. The likeliest points for this prizefight to occur are either December or January 2021. The news broke on Tuesday night and Dana White talked about Masvidal vs Diaz II plans at length during the latest Contender Series post-fight press conference.

One detail that many found interesting is that the BMF championship would be defended in this rematch. The lineage of the bad mother fucker title will purportedly continue. White mentioned Masvidal wished to defend his hardware against the pride of Stockton. This is curious considering White repeatedly stating that the initial BMF title fight was a one-off scenario.

Masvidal vs Diaz II

Diaz has not fought since the first Masvidal bout in November of last year. A fight that saw Jorge Masvidal win via doctor stoppage. The TKO was called from a cut on Diaz after the third round had elapsed. The controversial stoppage has left a certain segment of the MMA sphere yearning for a rematch.

The former UFC lightweight title challenger/ current top 15 welterweight would be taking his fifth fight in the last four and a half years if this booking opposite Masvidal comes to fruition.

Jorge Masvidal looks to return to the win column after a failed bid for Kamaru Usman’s welterweight title in July. Prior to that, Masvidal was riding a three-fight win streak with notable victories over Darren Till, Ben Askren, and the aforementioned Nate Diaz. Gamebred scored highlight-reel stoppage victories in all of these outings.

Jorge Masvidal is immersed in a career-best run. One that marries athletic accomplishment and enormous growth in notoriety. Now one of the biggest stars in MMA, Masvidal cannot afford to suffer back to back defeats at this point.
