Umar Nurmagomedov vs Nate Maness set for UFC FN on June 25

Highly touted Russian prospect, cousin of former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, Umar Nurmagomedov has his next bout lined up opposing a fellow talent that’s undefeated inside the octagon, Nathan Maness.

This bout is to go down at UFC Fight Night 208 on June 25, 2022, at a to-be-determined venue, .

Umar Nurmagomedov has been on an absolute tear since turning professional, going 14-0 thus far into his career.

This includes a 2-0 run in the UFC, securing finishes over the likes of former M-1 Challenge bantamweight champion Sergey Morozov (rear naked choke) and Brian Kelleher (rear naked choke) since joining the worlds leading mixed martial arts promotion.

Prior to joining the organization, he laid claim to the GFC bantamweight championship as well.

Then we have Nate Maness, who is also a champion outside the UFC, having won the BB, WFC, and TKO bantamweight championships en route to his promotional debut in 2020, the same year Nurmagomedov came over.

Maness, like Nurmagomedov, has also gone on a short undefeated run since joining the UFC, going 3-0 thus far, finishing his last two opponents in Luke Sanders (rear naked choke) and Tony Gravely (TKO).

Nurmagomedov comes into this bout still at just 26 years of age, standing 5’8” with a reach of 69”, while Maness turns 31 just two days after this fight, and stands 5’10” with a reach of 72”.

Both of these men had high aspirations before even coming over to the big show, and since they’ve been here, neither have came close to disappointing. They both have good striking; Nurmagomedov’s wrestling and grappling is of course at an elite level, and Maness is good at keeping his fights on the feet.

Of their 14 wins, each man has finished eight of those opponents:

(Nurmagomedov – 1 knockout, 7 submission, 6 decision & Maness – 5 knockout, 3 submission, 6 decision)

How do you see this bantamweight showcase going down?

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
