Urijah Faber says “it would be an honor to fight” Cub Swanson
UFC Hall of Famer Urijah Faber says “it would be an honor to fight” Cub Swanson in a battle between two fan favorites who fought in the WEC.
Faber has not fought since December 2019 when he suffered a KO loss to Petr Yan at UFC 245. At age 42, he is certainly not in the prime of his career anymore. Having said that, Faber is still open to returning to the Octagon for the right fight, and the right matchup just might be against Swanson.
At age 38, Swanson is also entering the latter phase of his MMA career, and at this point, is likely looking for fun fights. He suggested a fight against Swanson earlier this year, and Faber at the time said he was interested. In a recent interview with MMAjunkie.com, Faber doubled down on his interest in Swanson, admitting it might be the one fight that gets him to return to the Octagon again.
“That one fight out there with Cub has been talked about. I haven’t heard anything from the UFC, but that’s an opportunity still. That’s more about me hitting a switch and deciding to go in that direction. I’m not staying too out of shape at all times. That’s the key there. I’ve stuck to that,” Faber said.
“To be honest, I have a hard time turning down a good time. There have been 11 or 12 guys who have called me out over the last couple of years. Cub is actually a friend of mine. I would consider him somebody that it would be an honor to fight. It would make sense the way that he would put it. He was talking about coming down to 135 (pounds) for the first time. I like that part of it. Right now, that’s the one that really stands out. I don’t really have to fight, obviously. But I’m not opposed to it, and that sounds like a good time.”
Do you hope that the UFC books Urijah Faber against Cub Swanson next?
