Usman Nurmagomedov vs Chris Gonzalez set for Bellator 283

Usman Nurmagomedov vs Chris Gonzalez set for Bellator 283

At the moment, Bellator MMA has three events scheduled, one going down each month up until September.

The first event of which, Bellator 283, goes down next month on July 22, 2022, live from the Emerald Queen Casino and Hotel in Tacoma, Washington.

This event is to be headlined by a title fight, as Patricky Freire aims to make the first defense of his Bellator lightweight championship opposing no. 1 ranked Sidney Outlaw and is to be co-headlined by former multi-time Bellator welterweight champion Douglas Lima (no. 3), who will be facing fellow top ranked contender Jason Jackson (no. 4).

Our feature fight of the night comes in the lightweight division between Usman Nurmagomedov and Chris Gonzalez.

Nurmagomedov is a very popular name these days in the sport of mixed martial arts, and they’re merely all straight killers. Usman is no different, and many people believe he is the best out of them all.

Teammates have said that some fans have said that, and members of his family have also made the claim.

Having just turned 24 years old in April, Nurmagomedov already has a record of 14-0 going into this fight at Bellator 283, and he’s already racked up a perfect 3-0 promotional record.

What’s more, he’s a finisher, securing eight knockouts and four submissions since turning professional with just two decisions.

And his striking makes him a true prodigy. It’s so hard for his opponents to get past his kicks, none of them have been able to thus far into his young career, and of course, his wrestling and grappling is also at a very high level.

Chris Gonzalez is a US National Championships silver medalist (Greco-Roman wrestling), a trophy he won back in 2017 prior to beginning his MMA career, and though he doesn’t have as much experience as Nurmagomedov, he’s arguably fought better competition since being under the Bellator banner.

Coming in with a 7-1 record, Gonzalez rebounded from a defeat to Goiti Yamauchi (TKO) with a stunning 36-second head kick KO of longtime Bellator staple, and fellow knockout artist Saad Awad earlier this year back in January.

Whoever wins this fight will almost surely be catapulted into the top of the lightweight division.

Who do you see coming out of this bout on top between Usman Nurmagomedov and Chris Gonzalez?

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
