Vicente Luque vs. Michael Chiesa to meet at UFC 265 on Aug. 7

According to multiple reports, a high-stakes welterweight bout between Vicente Luque and Michael Chiesa has been set to take place at UFC 265 on Aug. 7.

Chris Prawdzik of Cageside Press first reported the bout.

The 29-year-old Luque, currently ranked No. 5 at 170 pounds, is riding a three-fight winning streak that includes stoppage victories over Niko Price, Randy Brown, and former UFC champion Tyron Woodley. He’s won nine of his last 10 bouts, and his only loss in that stretch came via unanimous decision against former multi-time title challenge Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson back at UFC 244 in November 2019.

Chiesa, meanwhile, currently sits at No. 6 in the welterweight rankings and is enjoying an impressive win streak of his own. After losing back-to-back fights to Kevin Lee and Anthony Pettis at lightweight, the 33-year-old Chiesa, who won season 15 of The Ultimate Fighter, elected to move up to the 170-pound division in 2018.

Since making the jump up in weight, Chiesa has become a much-improved version of himself, as he’s won four consecutive fights over Carlos Condit, Diego Sanchez, Rafael dos Anjos, and Neil Magny.

A women’s bantamweight fight between two-division champion Amanda Nunes and Julianna Pena is booked for UFC 265, but it’s currently unclear whether or not that fight will be the main event.

A location and venue have also not yet been determined for this card.
