Video: BROADENED HORIZIN Episode 6: Minowaman, Kanna Asakura, Miyuu Yamamoto, and Ai Shimizu
This is BROADENED HORIZIN. The MMA podcast show hosted by Drake Riggs where we chat with your favorite Japanese and RIZIN superstars… in English!
RIZIN 26 closes out the tumultuous year of 2020 on New Year’s Eve and with the countdown comes a final episode of the program featuring four of the event’s biggest names.
Starting things off we were joined by one of Japan’s biggest and brightest young superstars, the elite-tier atomweight contender, Kanna Asakura. The 23-year-old previewed her upcoming bout against Ai Shimizu and assessed her journey to where she is now. No stranger to the New Year’s Eve spectacular, it will be Asakura’s fourth time competing on the date.
Joining next was the ageless wonder herself, Miyuu Yamamoto who challenges for the vacant super atomweight crown. Standing in her way will be the former champion, Ayaka Hamasaki. Yamamoto discussed what the fight means to her as well as what this unique year has been like. Also by Yamamoto’s side was her husband Kyle Aguon who will be in action on RIZIN 26 against Kleber Koike.
After Yamamoto was her former teammate at Krazy Bee and Asakura’s next opponent, Ai Shimizu. The unbeaten wrestling standout reflected on how she got into the sport and detailed how she understands what she’s up against at RIZIN 26.
To close out 2020 for the show was an MMA icon whose career has been longer than Asakura is old. That’s right, it’s the returning Ikuhisa “Minowaman” Minowa.
Minowoman’s 117th career bout will be his RIZIN debut as he takes on the former Sumo wrestler, Tsuyoshi Sudario. On the show, the former PRIDE veteran took a trip down memory lane and how he became the “Giant-Killer”.
