VIDEO: First-ever buggy choke submission in Art of War Cage Fighting history

Spencer Rivas entered the Art of War Cage Fighting record books on June 23 when he defeated Anis Abdulloev with the promotion’s first ever buggy choke submission.

Rivas put his opponent away in the third round of the advanced amateur bout at AOW 30 from the LIVE! Casino and Hotel in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  Referee ‘Big’ Dan Miragliotta officiated the contest.

The buggy choke is rarely achieved in mixed martial arts competition. It is basically a combination between a leg and arm triangle choke. From the bottom side control, you will need one of your opponent’s arms in a specific position in order to have access to their shoulder. The submission was developed by a white belt named Austin Hart from Ralph Gracie’s Team in Northern California. The Ruotolo brothers, Tye and Kade, have become known for this submission hold, pulling it off against high level grapplers.

The win was the third of the night for the Scorpion Fighting Systems team that traveled to Pennsylvania from Michigan.  Rivas’ teammates Fallon Johnson and Ashley Ikner also picked up wins earlier in the night.
