Is Vitor Belfort Truly Retiring After UFC 224?

Vitor Belfort set to return at Triller Triad Combat 2 against former boxing world champ Chad Dawson

Vitor Belfort has his next fight booked.

Belfort, who made his return back in September against Evander Holyfield under the Triller banner, has been booked on the Triad Combat 2 card in late February. The former UFC champion will face Chad Dawson the promotion officially announced. The main event of the event will see Junior dos Santos battle Kubrat Pulev. Triad Combat puts MMA fighters vs. boxers under a set of rules intended to “level the playing field.”

Vitor Belfort (26-14 and one No Contest in MMA and 1-0 in boxing) is coming off a dominant first-round TKO win over Evander Holyfield in the main event of the Triller Legends card in September. The fight, however, was ruled an exhibition just days before the event so it is not part of his pro career. His lone pro boxing match came in 2006 where he scored a first-round KO over Josemario Nunes.

In MMA, Belfort last fought back at UFC 224 in May of 2018 where he was knocked out by Lyoto Machida. He announced his retirement after the fight but he later signed with ONE Championship but he never fought for the promotion and they mutually agreed to part ways. He’s the former UFC light heavyweight champion and holds notable wins over Randy Couture, Rich Franklin, Michael Bisping, Luke Rockhold, Rumble Johnson, and Dan Henderson among others.

Chad Dawson (36-5 and two No Contests) last fought back in October of 2019 where he beat Denis Grachev to win the vacant WBC-USNBC light heavyweight champion. The 39-year-old holds notable wins over Antonio Tarver, twice, and Bernard Hopkins. He has also competed against Andre Ward, Jean Pascal, and Adonis Stevenson.

The exact date and location of Triller Triad Combat 2 has not officially been announced. Yet, the promotion has said the event will take place at the end of February. More fights will also be announced for the card in the coming weeks.
