Volkan Oezdemir vs Shogun Rua rebooked, headlines UFC Hamburg
A light heavyweight bout between Volkan Oezdemir and Maurcio ‘Shogun’ Rua was supposed to take place earlier this year but had to be removed from the UFC’s debut in Chile fight card due to ongoing legal issues that Oezdemir is currently dealing with regarding an alleged assault. The fight between the number two ranked Oezdemir and number seven ranked Rua has been rebooked to headline the UFC’s return to Hamburg, Germany on July 22.
The announcement came today via the UFC Europe Twitter page.
Oezdemir (15-2) challenged UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier for the title at UFC 220 in January. He lost the fight by knockout in the second round. It was his first loss in the UFC and first since a submission to Kelly Anundson at Bellator 115 in April 2014.
Rua is riding a three fight win-streak dating back to August 2015. His recent trio of wins includes victories of Gian Villante, Corey Anderson, and Antônio Rogério Nogueira. This is the longest streak the former UFC light heavyweight champion has had since coming to the organization.
Tickets for Volkan Oezdemir vs Shogun Rua go on sale on Friday.
