The UFC is back for another event on Fight Island and the fight card goes down on a rare Wednesday afternoon.
In the main event of UFC Fight Island 8, welterweights Michael Chiesa and Neil Magny square off in a meeting between the No. 8 and 9 ranked fighters in the division.
The co-main event will also feature a clash of welterweights as Warlley Alves takes on Mounir Lazzez.
Alves (14-4) will be making his first walk to the octagon since November 2019 when he to Randy Brown. The former TUF winner picked up a knockout win earlier that year against Sergio Moraes.
Lazzez (10-1) made his UFC debut in July where he picked up a unanimous decision win over Abdul Razak Alhassan. He’ll bring a three-fight winning streaking into the co-main event.
Here’s how their fight went down with a round-by-round breakdown and scoring. For a full list of UFC Fight Island 8 results, click here.
Round 1
Alves gets right after it as soon as the referee says go. He sprinted out landed a leg kick and immediate started teeing off. After teeing off, Alves goes to the clinch and drives Lazzez up against the cage.
After a few moments clinched up, Alves flips Lazzez onto the ground and is looking for a position to do some damage. He threw a few punches with nothing landing effectively and then Lazzez works his way to the feet.
Once they get to the feet, Lazzez breaks the clinch, but as soon as it breaks, Alvez lands three straight kicks to the body with the last one hurting Lazzez badly. Lazzez falls to the canvas and Alves throws a shot or two and the referee comes in and stops the fight.
Official Result: Warlley Alves defeats Mounir Lazzez by TKO – Round 1 (2:35)
