WBA Orders Gervonta Davis to Face Rolando Romero
Rolando “Rolly” Romero and Gervonta “Tank” Davis were originally scheduled to fight last year, but following allegations on Romero’s end, he was pulled from the December 5th Showtime Pay-Per-View.
Following the charges against Romero being dropped, the WBA has re-ordered the fight and the two will be set to face-off by the end of the year.
The two undefeated lightweight stars have had quite a bit to say about each other. Romero stated that he was “going to activate the mandatory and keep pressing that s**t and knock him the f**k out. It’s as simple as that.”
Davis (26-0, 24 KOs), is the WBA lightweight titleholder. It was rumored that his next title defense would be against George Kambosos. But according to committee chairman Carlos Chavez, the WBA “committee ordered the lightweight world title fight between champion Gervonta Davis and mandatory challenger Rolando Romero.”
Romero (14-0, 12 KOs), who stated that “if the Tank fight doesn’t happen, we know who is a p***y,” seems to be getting his wish. And for boxing fans, they can expect a real show.
Though the fight does not have a date, we can assume it will be sometime in the spring or summer of 2022. So, make sure to keep an eye out for a date announcement.
