Video: Will Brooks Focused on Robert Watley for PFL 5

BrooksOn Tuesday afternoon, No. 3 seeded Professional Fighters League lightweight “Ill” Will Brooks discusses his upcoming fight against No. 1 seeded Robert Watley at PFL 5. PFL 5 takes place Thursday evening at NYCB Live – Nassau Coliseum on Long Island, New York. Fights start at 6 PM EST. on Facebook Watch, followed by the main card at 9 PM on NBC Sports Network.

Brooks (19-4) and Watley (11-1), each won their respective bouts at PFL 2, in Chicago, Illinois. Winner of this fight can very well determine the number one seed for the lightweight (155-pounds) division heading into the inaugural PFL playoffs. Brooks made it clear he believes Watley only earned those five bonus points due to a “Nut Shot”.

The former Bellator MMA lightweight champion, now fighting under the PFL banner showed a very focused and determined fighter as he spoke to the media after his open workout inside Longo and Weidman MMA (LAW-MMA) gym. A favorite to win the PFL tournament is coming off an impressive unanimous decision victory against Luiz Firmino (20-9).

In the media scrum, the American Top Team fighter explains how he doesn’t have to dip back to his wrestling roots to win this fight against Watley because the work ethic is ingrained in him since the beginning. He mentions how he used to wrestle all season, work all summer, and then play football throughout high school and that focus and determined mentality he displayed speaking to the media shows inside the cage when fights.

This fight between Watley, who is currently the No. 1 seed with five points, and Brooks, the No. 3 seed with three points could very well determine the top seed for the PFL inaugural tournament. Brooks made it clear that seeding means nothing to him and that he has to win one fight at a time.

Hailing from Chicago, Brooks brings a real New England Patriots mentality to the game. Brooks and Watley are fighting on the main card in the third bout which is aired at 9 PM on NBC Sports Network.
