World Karate Federation Seniors Championship Postponed Until 2021
The World Karate Federation met via video confrence on June 22nd. They discussed the current scheule cancellations and what would be the next steps to get karate back in action in the coming months.
With COVID-19 canceling all events earlier this year, the sports fans have been dying to know when or if the World Senior Championships in UAE. The original tournament was scheduled for November this year. Now, the 2020 championship is postponed until November of 2021.
Due to the postponement of the 2020 Championships, World Cadet, Junior and U21 championship will take place in 2022 and the World Senior Championships again in 2023.
Karate and the Olympics
Karate was added to the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo during this Olympic cycle. Like the World Championships, the Olympics were postponed by a year as well. The sport has been attempting to join the Olympic Games since the 1970’s and finally received recognition in 2020, a 50 year process.
Now on a big stage, the WKF is hoping to have more eyes on karate and have it’s international audience broadened. Growing the sport globally will benefit all the athletes and the WKF, helping teach students life lessons.
Karate Combat
In addition time WKF and the Olympics setting a date to return, Bas Rutten’s Karate Combat is working on a card to return soon to action. The full contact karate league takes place in a pit offers full contact for the sport. A source tells My MMA News that a date or venue isn’t set yet but a card is being constructed now.
Karate Combat hasn’t held an event since their event in Hollywood in January 2019. The promotion is restructuring how their events are held and looks forward to a triumphant return.
