Yan Xiaonan storms through Jessica Andrade with first-round TKO victory at UFC 288

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returned to us tonight, May 6, 2023, for UFC 288, going down live from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Headlining the event is the return of former UFC flyweight & bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo (16-2), who makes his first appearance in three years in attempt to reclaim his throne against current champion Aljamain Sterling (22-3).

Co-headlining the event is a five-round welterweight affair between no. 4 ranked Belal Muhammad (22-3, 1 NC) and no. 5 ranked former title challenger Gilbert Burns (22-5).

Our feature fight of the evening came at 115 lbs between no. 4 ranked former UFC strawweight champion Jessica Andrade (24-11) and no. 6 ranked Yan Xiaonan (17-3, 1 NC).

Official Result: Yan Xiaonan def. Jessica Andrade via TKO (punches) at 2:20 of round one

Xiaonan looked incredibly sharp tonight. Her kickboxing was on point with her jab and leg kicks working very well for her. She lands a nice right hand that Andrade eats, before Andrade rushes in with a combination and is countered with a thunderous right hand by Xiaonan.

Andrade drops and Xiaonan follows up with some hammerfists for the stoppage victory.

This is Yan Xiaonan’s first knockout victory inside the UFC, and also her first finish inside the UFC, and she did it by knocking out one of, if not the most lethal female knockout artist in the sport.

UFC strawweight champion Weili Zhang TKO’d Andrade in the first round herself to begin her first reign as champion, and now Yan Xiaonan does the same thing. Anyone up for a China versus China title fight?

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
