Yushin Okami: “Let’s decide who is Asia’s No.1 in the middleweight division”
Yushin Okami is one of Japan’s most decorated and beloved professional mixed martial artists. “Thunder” Okami, a former UFC middleweight title challenger who holds a pro MMA record of 37-14, has been competing for 20 years after getting his start in March 2002.
After a second stint with the UFC, Okami ventured to the Singapore-based promotion, ONE Championship in 2019 where he fought three times in the same year. The now 40-year-old fighter has not competed since his last outing in October 2019, and only won one of those three contests.
Okami was slated to return in January 2022 but his fight against Leandro Ataides was cancelled after his opponent tested positive for COVID-19.
Okami has been looking to book a fight for quite a while, with nothing coming to fruition. He has even previously called out former ONE Middleweight and Light Heavyweight World Champion Aung La N Sang.
Last year La N Sang responded to Okami, stating “@_Yushin_Okami_ it would be an honor to share the @ONEChampionship circle with you. 🙏🏽
But I don’t think you will beat me.”

No fight was ever booked, but just days ago, Okami went back in on the former champion.
This time on Instagram, Okami wrote:
“Let’s fight!
Let’s decide who is Asia’s No.1 in the middleweight division!”
