Alex Morono out strikes Mickey Gall to unanimous decision

The UFC returns to Las Vegas, Nevada once again tonight, December 4, 2021, for UFC on ESPN 31, headlined by former multi-time WEC & UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo, who faces fellow top ranked bantamweight contender Rob Font in the main event of the evening.

Co-headlining the event is a pair of kickboxing champions in Brad Riddell and Rafael Fiziev, both of which are looking to make it five-straight inside the octagon.

Opening up the main card tonight was a welterweight contest between proven finishers and BJJ black belts Alex Morono and Mickey Gall, both of which have really been filling their gaps lately. Continue reading to see how this bout went down:

Round 1: Both fighters exchange jabs early, finding a rhythm. Morono connects first. Gall immediately fires back, putting his hands out consistently, switching from head to body. Morono is countering Galls attempts to get within range. Morono is light on his feet, waiting to connect precisely. Morono lands a flush (SHOT) which Gall walks straight into and drops to the canvas. Morono pounces on a downed Gall, looking for the finishing touches via ground and pound. Gall throws his legs up looking for several entanglements while he beautifully recovers. With moments left on the clock, the bout gets back to the feet. Both fighters throw last second punches as the bell sounds.

Round 2: Morono opens the round landing several hard punches as he keeps his guard high and tight. Gall blitzes forward with his own nasty combination of punches he uses to get within range to get within arm’s reach of Morono for the takedown. Morono is fending off Gall’s advancements with clean counter punches. With a minute left, both fighters are swinging for the fences as they take turns exchanging punches. Gall attempts a takedown with twenty seconds left that is nullified. Morono lands one more wild punch that catches Gall in his tracks as the bell sounds.

Round 3: Morono lands several hard punches to start the round with dominance but Gall is staying in Morono’s face. Morono continues to piece his punch combinations together. Gall attempts a flying knee to no avail. Morono is picking his shots more intently now, knowing he’s ahead on the scorecard. Gall continues to put more pressure on and Morono stays poised, keeping the fight at the end of his strikes. Gall remains aggressive for the final minute and walks into a flush spinning back fist from Morono. Gall brushes it off and continues the pressure hoping for the hail Mary until the final bell sounds.
