Alex Pereira confirms move to 205

Former middleweight champion Alex Pereira is here for glory. After losing his title to Israel Adesanya, whom he claimed it from just one fight earlier, Pereira is making the move to light heavyweight to chase a second title. Pereira announced the move on his YouTube channel earlier today. Good luck, 205. This guy is gonna wreak havoc.

Alex Pereira: Combat Sports Glory

Alex Pereira chasing a second belt is nothing new. While kickboxing, Pereira captured the middleweight and light heavyweight titles for Glory kickboxing. He defeated kickboxing legend Simon Marcus to win the 185 title and defended it four times. He then moved up to 205 and defeated incumbent champ Artem Vakhitov for the title.

Since moving to mixed martial arts, Pereira took the world by storm. He quickly rose through the middleweight division and defeated Israel Adesanya with an incredible fifth round knockout. Unfortunately, he lost that title in the rematch at UFC 287.

The move to light heavyweight makes sense. First of all, Pereira cuts a lot of weight and as he ages, that cut will get harder. But there is also built in story lines for Pereira at 205.

Both Jamahal Hill and Jiri Prochazka, two possible opponents for Pereira, defeated Glover Teixeira and took the title away from him. Not only are the two adversaries to his teammate and coach, but the fights themself would be incredibly fun and something all fans should be excited for.

There’s no confirmed fight for Alex Pereira at light heavyweight yet. His last fight, a devastating knockout, will likely have him out for a good period of time. But 205 needs to prepare, Poatan cometh.
