Alex Pereira, UFC 300

Alex Pereira KO’s Jamahal Hill, defends 205 lb title in UFC 300 main event

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returned to us tonight, April 13, 2024, for the biggest event mixed martial arts has ever put on, UFC 300, going down live from the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada.

Headlining the event, following an epic BMF title fight between Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway and a strawweight title bout between Weili Zhang and Yan Xiaonan, was a light-heavyweight title bout between former UFC middleweight champion and current UFC light-heavyweight champion Alex Pereira (10-2), who aimed to make the first defense of his title in tonight’s main event opposing no. 1 ranked former UFC light-heavyweight champion Jamahal Hill (13-2).

Pereira had just claimed the strap in his latest appearance when he stopped former champion Jiri Prochazka in Prochazka’s return off an injury this past November, becoming the first man to defeat him across 14 fights since 2015, while Hill came in off his injury, this being his first fight in over a year, and looked to reclaim the belt he never lost in a fight.

Official Result: Alex Pereira def. Jamahal Hill via KO (punches) at 3:14 of round one

Pereira got to work with his outside leg kick early, Hill of which returned with some slick leg kicks of his own. Pereira then started going to the body with his jab, landing a number of them in order to set up his trademark left hook.

Hill partially landed a groin kick, Pereira shrugging the referee off as they immediately got back to the fight.

Pereira landed that thunderous left hook of his soon after and floored Hill with it, following up with some ground and pound for the first round stoppage.

Alex Pereira just made the first defense of his light-heavyweight title, and he’s now beaten five world champion opponents in the last two years. It’s incredible what this man has done.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
