Amanda Lemos vs. Jessica Andrade: Both feel the bout is a title eliminator
The two women in this Saturday’s UFC main event both feel that the winner deserves the next shot at the Strawweight strap.
At the UFC Fight Night: Lemos vs. Andrade media day, Amanda Lemos states that when she walks into the octagon she is looking to “win and convince.”
She continues, “this Saturday, if I am able to convince and be decisive on a win, I do think, I do believe that I should be having a title shot.”
Lemos Interview below:
Jessica Andrade has a similar feeling going into her headlining event against Lemos.
“I think that maybe a very dominant win could push me a little bit higher [in the rankings].”
With a dominant win, she continues, “maybe I’ll get pushed a little bit higher and maybe I can save a fight before I get to a title fight. You never know, the only thing that I can guarantee is that I’m ready.”
Andrade Interview below:
Lemos (11-1-1) has been on a tear through the strawweight division. On a five-fight win streak, the Brazilian has finished 9 of her 11 wins before the final bell. With 5 first-round finishes under her belt, Lemos will look to make quick work of Andrade to force her hand for a title bout with current champion “Thug” Rose Namajunas.
Andrade (22-9-0), the former UFC strawweight champion, moved up in weight in 2020 where she defeated Katlyn Chookagian at 125 lbs and fought Valentina Shevchenko for the flyweight strap. Following her unsuccessful flyweight title challenge, she defeated Cynthia Calvillo at UFC 266.
As the number one ranked flyweight, Andrade will test her hand once again at 115 lbs when she faces Lemos this Saturday.
UFC Vegas 52 takes place on April 23rd and is to be broadcasted on ESPN+.
