Amanda Ribas calls out Yan Xiaonan: “It would be a great fight”
UFC women’s strawweight contender Amanda Ribas called out fellow divisional rival Yan Xiaonan, saying that “it would be a great fight.”
Ribas is coming off of a decision win over Virna Jandiroba at UFC 267 that saw her get back into the win column following a TKO loss to Marina Rodriguez earlier this year. Ribas is currently the No. 10 ranked fighter at 115lbs and she is now looking up the ladder for her next opponent. It appears as though she has her eyes on one fighter in particular as Ribas is eyeing Xiaonan for her next fight.
Xiaonan is coming off of a destructive TKO defeat to Carla Esparza in her last outing back in May, but she is the No. 4 ranked fighter in the 115lbs women’s division right now. With both Ribas and Xiaonan without an opponent, the Brazilian took to her Twitter this week to make a public callout of her fellow strawweight rival. Check out the message that Ribas send to Xiaonan on social media.
Heyy @yanxiaonan !!!I was
thinking..almost all fighters in our
weight division have a scheduled
fight or something. How about schedule ours too?!think it would be a GREAAT fight@ufc @UFCNews @danawhite@Mickmaynard2 @ribasfight@Alexdavismma @MMAjunkie@espnmma @canalCombate— Amanda Ribas (@amandaribasufc) November 9, 2021

Since both Xiaonan and Ribas are top-10 ranked fighters who do not have their next opponents lined up, a matchup between them does make sense as far as the rankings are concerned. For Ribas, she has nothing to lose by calling out a higher-ranked fighter, though, for Xiaonan, she might be looking to fight someone ranked closer to her at the top of the division. Either way, Ribas has shot her shot and made it public that she wants to fight Xiaonan next, so now the ball is in the UFC’s court.
