Andre Petroski dominant in UFC debut with 3rd round TKO

UFC Fight Night: Barbosa vs Chikadze goes down tonight in Las Vegas inside the UFC Apex.  This is also the finale for this seasons The Ultimate Fighter and the main event looks to be a strikers fan’s dream match-up as Edson Barbosa will look to slow down the fast rising Giga Chikadze.  Both men are relentless stand-up fighters and fireworks are in the forecast.  The co-main event features Bryan Battle and Gilbert Urbina in the middleweight TUF final.

In a main card matchup in the middleweight division, Andre Petroski (5-1) steps up on 2 weeks notice to work in the octagon against fellow TUF competitor Michael Gillmore (6-3).  Petroski was Team Ortega’s first pick this season and got off to a fast start but wasn’t so fortunate his next time out.  Gillmore was an injury replacement and had been living in a hotel at his own expense when he got the call to join the house.  This is a big fight for both men who want to leave a good first impression on Dana White and company.  This is how the fight went down, including round by round scoring from MyMMANews.

Round 1

First minute of the fight these guys are both feeling feeling each other out. Petroski with a big right hook and shoots in for a double leg and picks up Gilmore and takes him to the center of the octagon and dumps him on is back into side control.  Petroski landing some vicious ground and pound including a couple elbows as he remains inside control with 2 minutes left in the round. Gillmore gets back to his feet but Petroski picks him up and dumps him back down and is now taking his back. Petroski with a neck crank but Gillmore slips out. Some blood from the bridge of Gillmore’s nose as the round ends.

Round 2

Gillmore comes out trying to land a couple of leg kicks as Petroski closes the distance.  Gillmore is showing some good take down defense this round.  Petroski shoots in again and is unsuccessful and Gimore kicks his legs out from beneath him but Andre is right back up. Nice exchange of hands from both fighters.  Petroski with a big left which he uses for a level change into a successful take down and is in side control with 40 seconds left in the round. Now Petroski is in the full mount landing some heavy punches as the bell rings

Round 3 

Petroski immediately in on a double leg and another take down and Gillmore is once again in a defensive position up against the cage. Petroski now in the full mount landing left hands to the head. Petroski continues landing lefts and full mount again. Dominant position for Petroski for the entire round thus far. Brutal elbows raining down from Petroski and the referee has to stop the fight.
