Angela Hill set to make history at UFC Vegas 10
It will be a history-making night when top strawweight contenders meet in the Main Event of UFC Vegas 10.
In 2014, Angela ‘Overkill’ Hill became the first African American woman to be signed by the UFC in the promotion’s history. Now, six years later, Hill has the opportunity to make history once again under the UFC banner.
When Hill steps into the Octagon with JacksonWink product Michelle Waterson in the main event of UFC Vegas 10, she will become the first African American woman ever to headline a UFC card.
In the process of making history, Hill will look to rebound after her split-decision loss to Claudia Gadelha at UFC Jacksonville back in May of this year. The Alliance MMA product sits with a current professional record of 12-8, with hopes that a win over #8 ranked Waterson will launch her into title contention in a talented strawweight division.
In recognition of International Women’s Day this year, Hill spoke on her friend Diedre Levi as well as the leadup to the 2009 clash between Cris Cyborg and Gina Carano as sources of inspiration for her as she began her Muay Thai career, stating “their fight paved the way for the Rousey’s and Nunez’s of the world and eventually us little gals.” She also recognized women she had trained with along the way that made her a better fighter, such as Bec Rawlings, Jessica Penne, Christine Stanley, and Paulina Granados.
Now, just a few years later, Hill has put herself in the position to possibly become somebody else’s inspiration as she continues to do things never done before in the world’s premiere mixed martial arts organization.
