A fight between rising strawweight contenders Angela Hill and Michelle Waterson is scheduled to take place in August. The news of the fight was first reported by MMA Junkie on Tuesday, with the date set for August 22 for an event that will take place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on ESPN.
This will be Hill’s second fight in two months, after she dropped a controversial decision to Claudia Gadelha which had fireworks following the result from both women, including Gadelha saying she would not grant a rematch to Hill. Before dropping the fight to Gadelha, Hill was on a three-fight winning streak including a big second-round TKO over Hannah Cifers.
Michelle Waterson will also be looking to jump back into the win column in this fight against Hill, as she has dropped her last two fights against Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Carla Esparza, respectively. Before her skid, Waterson had a three-fight winning streak with wins over Cortney Casey, Felice Herrig, and Karolina Kowalkiewicz which put her in the conversation for the bigger named opponents.
According to the UFC rankings, Hill is currently listed as the 8th-ranked strawweight contender while Hill has finally got the respect she deserves, ranking 13th in the official system. Both women are veterans of the sports, having spent the earlier part of their careers in Invicta FC. Both Waterson and Hill have been champions in Invicta as well.
There are currently four known matchups for the UFC’s event on August 22nd, and according to MMA Junkie, these are those four matchups.
- Uriah Hall vs Yoel Romero
- Mizuki Inoue vs Amanda Lemos
- Mariya Agapova vs Shana Dobson
- Angela Hill vs Michelle Waterson
While it will not be a title eliminator in the strawweight division, the fight between Hill and Waterson will have some high stakes as the winner will likely set themselves up for a possible big matchup in the division after this fight.
