Anna Crutchfield Joins Carroll’s Corner MMA Podcast to Discuss Upcoming Kickboxing and MMA Fights
Anna Crutchfield, of Upstate Karate, joined Kyle Carroll on Carroll’s Corner MMA Podcast to discuss her upcoming kickboxing and MMA fights. Crutchfield is coming off a victory against Mary Matia at LFA 8. She battled Matia in a kickboxing bout that went to a split decision. The former Olympic hopeful trains out of Upstate Karate in South Carolina, under head coach Ray Thompson, the father and coach of UFC’s welterweight contender Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson.
Crutchfield is fighting in another kickboxing fight at 864 Fighting Championships in Greenville, South Carolina before making her full transition to MMA. As a kickboxer, Crutchfield is 1-0 and as an MMA fighter, she is currently 0-1. The South Carolina fighter will make a quick turn around as she’ll be leaping into the MMA cage just over a month after fighting a kickboxing bout.
The striker explains to My MMA News reporter Kyle Carroll about her level of commitment. Fighting at bantamweight, the Ray Thompson fighter listened to his advice of “training like a professional” and is now fighting at flyweight (125-pounds) after changing her diet, workout routine, and dedication in the gym.
Former boxer and Olympic hopeful earned an invite to the USA Boxing Olympic team trails where her boxing career fizzled out after a hip injury. Crutchfield mentions the way she bumped into Ray and Stephen Thompson and joined their gym. MMA is the next step in her progression as a fighter.
The Preacher’s Daughter found a common interest in UFC fighter Holly Holm. Coming from a boxing background and also being the daughter of a preacher, Crutchfield looks up to the former UFC bantamweight champion.
