Army vet De’Jon Farrell-Francis pro debut comes at ROC 79

Video interview with De’Jon Farrell-Francis above

Ring of Combat, brought to you by former world kickboxing champion, Louis Neglia Jr and Dead Serious Promotions, kicks off their 2023 schedule on March 3rd.  ROC 79 will be hosted as usual in Atlantic City, NJ inside the Showroom at the Tropicana Casino and Hotel Resort.  Neglia is a pioneer in the combat sports world and takes extreme pride in providing the forum for mixed martial artists to display their hard work and skills.  Nothing makes him happier than seeing them succeed and go on to bigger things such as the UFC.  Over 160 fighters are ROC alumnus and have gone on to achieve success, including 6 world champions.

ROC 79 is sure to have several fighters, who have those next level skills, go to battle on this card. I will be cageside handling commentary duties along with ROC vet and former UFC stand-out, “Raging” Al Iaquinta.  The fight card features several gentlemen making their professional debut.  One of them is De’Jon Farrell-Francis, who represents Ramirez Boys Fight House.

Farrell-Francis has been very busy taking kickboxing and grappling matches to go with his seven amateur MMA fights.  He has a very tall task ahead of him as he faces the heavy wrestling of Tom “Freight Train” Lane.  De’Jon is a 27-year-old and U.S. Army veteran who seems relatively unfazed.  He tells MyMMANews

“It’s really just a street fight.  It’s nothing like being shot at.  It’s nothing like being in the middle of the desert and being dehydrated.  It’s still that same type of fear.  That fight or flight hits you.  Tom being a wrestler, he knows the grind.  He knows the aggression he has to have. There’s no such thing as a lazy wrestler.  They have amazing cardio. They’re always like a bull, and they commit.  I will make it difficult.  Worst case scenario is I get taken down.  If I can take that stress and go to deep waters, I know I’ll be fine.  It’s a matter of grit and who wants it more.”

Please check out our full interview on the link above.

Shout out to his coach Rogers Ramirez, who is one of my favorites in the game.  He gives back to the sport daily and loves his team like family.  Rogers is good for the sport.  If you can’t make it to the event, you can download the Airy.TV app or go to AiryTV.com and stream the full card for free.  First bell is at 8:30 pm.

MyMMANews will have any updates, and a full recap with results as we continue to give regional combat sports the coverage they deserve.
