Ashlee Evans Smith Signs to the UFC; Replaces Holly Holm
Recently it was announced that the long-waited arrival of Holly Holm to the UFC would be put on hold once again as the former boxing champion had to withdraw from her December 6 bout with Raquel Pennington.
Holm’s injury presented opportunity to a World Series of Fighting competitor, Ashlee Evans Smith. Smith is also a Championship Fighting Alliance (CFA) champion, making headlines last year after defeating transgendered mixed martial artist, Fallon Fox.
The undefeated CFA tournament champ, Smith will be the replacement for Holm against Raquel Pennington at UFC 181 December 6 in Las Vegas. Pennington announced the match-up on her facebook.
In her last fight Smith defeated Marcia Allen by TKO this past June at WSOF 10. Smith was a collegiate wrestler and a teammate of UFC fighter Carla Esparza.
Pennington (4-4) is coming off a loss over a split decision loss to Jessica Andrade. She won her official UFC debut with a decision over Roxanne Modafferi.
