Askar Askar released from the UFC following medical clearance issues

Askar Askar has been cut from the UFC despite never stepping foot inside of the octagon.

Originally, the 26-year-old fighter was scheduled to fight Cody Stamann last Saturday at UFC Vegas 18, but he was removed from the fight just hours before the event due to abnormalities discovered during his pre-fight medical testing.

TSN was the first to report the news of the the fighter’s release. MMA Junkie followed up on the report and stated that the abnormalities weren’t related to COVID-19 or drug testing. Askar will try and get medical clearances in hope of re-signing with the UFC.

Askar accepted the fight with Stamann on less than one week’s notice after Andre Ewell pulled out of the fight. Prior to accepting the fight in the UFC, he competed in LFA where he just picked a unanimous decision win over Kevin Wirth in October at LFA 92.

He holds a record of 11-1 throughout his professional career. His lone loss came against Saidyokub Kakaramonov in February of 202o.
