Askar Askar replaces Andre Ewell, debuts against Cody Stamann at UFC Fight Night 182 on Feb. 6

Cody Stamann has a new opponent; again.

Promotional newcomer Askar Askar will replace Andrew Ewell to take on Stamann at UFC Fight Night 182 at the UFC Apex is Las Vegas, Nevada this Saturday, Feb. 6. First reported by MMA DNA, Ewell was pulled from the card due to a positive COVID-19 test. The bantamweight tested negative on two separate occasions after, but is still removed from the fight for precautionary reasons.

Stamann is looking to rebound after suffering a unanimous decision loss to Jimmie Rivera at UFC on ESPN 13 this past July. The 31-year-old is 1-1-1 in his last three octagon appearances. He earned a unanimous decision victory over Brian Kelleher at UFC 150  back in June. He fought to a draw against Yadong Song at UFC on ESPN 7 in December 2019.

Stamaan was originally slated to fight the surging Merab Dvalishvili. That match was scrapped after Dvalishvili tested positive for COVID-19.

Fighter Path first reported the news of Askar Askar’s arrival to the UFC. Askar is 11-1, most recently defeating Kevin Wirth via unanimous decision at LFA 92 in October.

Training out of Illinois, Askar has finished six of his opponents, including five by TKO/knockout and one via submission. Askar has made his rounds promotionally, fighting for Island Fights, Victory FC and Titan FC.

His first UFC test with be the No. 13th ranked bantamweight on the roster.
