Belal Muhammad TKO’s Sean Brady in round two at UFC 280

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us today, October 22, 2022, live from the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi for UFC 280.

The event is to be headlined by a UFC lightweight championship clash between no. 1 ranked Charles Oliveira (33-8) and no. 4 ranked Islam Makhachev (22-1), and it is to be co-headlined by UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling (21-3), who aims to make the second defense of his title against former two-time divisional champion TJ Dillashaw (17-4).

A pair of welterweight contenders in former Titan FC welterweight champion, no. 5 ranked Belal Muhammad (21-3) and former CFFC welterweight champion, no. 8 ranked Sean Brady (15-0) headlined our preliminary card today; Muhammad came in unbeaten in his last eight, while Brady came in having gone 5-0 thus far into his UFC career.

Official Result: Belal Muhammad def. Sean Brady via TKO (punches) at 4:47 of round two

Muhammad takes the center once the bout begins, and controls the center of the octagon throughout the first round.

Brady is landing some nice counters, and he’s switching stances regularly. He catches a kick from Muhammad and sits him down, before letting him up. Brady attempts a takedown not long after and is unsuccessful with it.

Both men look sharp throughout the first five minutes.

It’s presumed Brady won the first round, though Muhammad began to pull away in the final minute.

Brady continues to look sharp in the striking department into the second round, but his failed takedown attempts appear to be discouraging him a bit. Muhammad is continuing to press the action, and with one minute left in the second, the significant striking totals are dead even at 45-45.

But, Muhammad lands a hard right hand late in the round that stuns Brady badly.

Muhammad follows up with a series of boxing combinations en route to the standing TKO stoppage victory.

The fight was stopped just a tad early, but Brady was seriously hurt, and he certainly would’ve taken more damage had the fight continued.

Belal Muhammad hands Sean Brady the first defeat of his career, and considering his fight with Leon Edwards in March of 2021 ended in a no contest, he’s now unbeaten in his last nine fights.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
