A.J. McKee and Pitbull add fireworks to Bellator Press 221 Conference
Bellator’s upcoming fight card at the AllState Arena in will showcase an explosive night of fights. While a lightweight World Title fight between Michael Chandler and Patricio Pitbull has epic written all over it, A.J. McKee has his own thoughts on the bout.
While Pitbull discussed defeating Chandler as a revenge fight for brother, Patricky Freire, his sights quickly turned to McKee when shots were fired. Unfortunately, Chandler was silenced during the rants between McKee and Pitbull.
McKee, who is set to fight Pat Curran on the same night, hopes a win would pin him against Pitbull in a featherweight title fight. McKee stated that fighters such as Emmanuel Sanchez, Curran and even Pitbull have dodged him for fights. Could we see the winner of this fight take on Pitbull for the next title shot at featherweight? Pitbull never stated whether he would stay at lightweight with a victory over Chandler. Not much else was mentioned about future fights after the May 11 card in Chicago.
During the press conference, Pitbull and McKee took several shots at each other implying a near imminent bout between the two regardless of the outcomes of their respective upcoming fights. McKee saying he’d “take you [Pitbull] to the pound.” Pitbull stated McKee might not even get passed Curran.
The co-main event, a semi-final matchup between Michael “Venom” Page and Douglas Lima puts both fighters one step closer to the Welterweight title and $1 Million. Both fighters were asked ad nauseam about Rory MacDonald’s recent majority draw advancement to the semi finals to fight Neiman Gracie. The main narrative was whether MacDonald should retire. MVP and Lima both voiced their opinions on MacDonald’s possible retirement, who they believe won the fight between him and John Fitch, etc. Neither fighter really had much to say about the chance of Gracie advancing passed MacDonald.
Bellator 221 will feature both bouts on Saturday May 11 at the AllState Arena in Rosemont, IL.
