On Saturday night, Dec. 28, 2019, Bellator MMA makes its organizational debut in Japan for Bellator 237. The event takes place at the world famous Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan and will be headlined by a heavyweight battle between legends of the sport, as Fedor Emelianenko takes on Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.
Bellator 237 takes place in collaboration with RIZIN FF.
In a catchweight fight at 173 pounds, Michael “Venom” Page makes a quick turnaround to face Shinsho Anzai. After suffering the first loss of his career to Douglas Lima at Bellator 221, “MVP” bounced back with consecutive highlight reel knockouts of Richard Kiely and Gianni Melillo. Page looks to make it three straight wins a little over a month after his last appearance.
After a 2-2 tenure with the UFC, Anzai returned to competition after a 15-month layoff at DEEP 91 and picked up a technical decision win over Yoichiro Sato in September. The 34-year-old Anzai holds Octagon wins over Roger Zapata in 2015, and Luke Jumeau in 2017.
Here is how the fight between Michael Page and Shinsho Anzai went down at Bellator 237, including round-by-round scoring. For full event results, check them out right here.
The bell rings and Page comes out in his classic hands down stance. Hard jab by Page, and another as he is using is length to his advantage early. Flying knee by “MVP” and Anzai holds on to a single leg. Page separates and they are back in the center of the cage. Jab from the much taller Page as Anzai is trying to find a way inside. Combination by Page and Anzai charging in trying to land. Flying knee again from Page, but Anzai was ready for it as he clinches against the fence. Page circles out of it and lands a big right hand. Leg kick from Anzai and Page lands a hard right hand. Quick right hand lands on the left eye of Anzai, immediately cutting it open. Big combination drops the UFC veteran and he is hurt. Page lands a crazy kick I don’t even know the name of with under a minute to go. Jumping knee from Page on a charging Anzai. Another jumping knee from Page as he was moving backwards. Another jumping knee and a hard elbow from “MVP”. Anzai is as tough as they come as he survives an impressive Page showing over the first five minutes.
MyMMANews.com scores it 10-8 for Page
Page landing early in Round 2, and another flying knee finds the mark. Page lands a quick right hand and Anzai is down. The referee has seen enough as Anzai is out on his feet as he was helped up. Love him or hate him, Page is as entertaining as any fighter on the planet.
