Bellator 260: Nick Newell and Yaroslav Amosov quotes

Bellator 260 goes down on Friday, June 11th from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. The event broadcasts live on Showtime. I spoke with Nick Newell and Yaroslav Amosov ahead of their individual mixed martial arts contests at the Bellator 260 media day.

Nick Newell and Yaroslav Amosov

Newell discussed his concept for fight shorts that look like jorts and creating fight shorts styled to look like cargo shorts for fighting fathers.

Amosov touched on his multiple combat sambo world titles and where a Bellator MMA world title would rank within those accomplishments. If the undefeated 170 pounder gets the desired outcome in Friday’s fight with reigning Bellator MMA welterweight champion Douglas Lima.

Nick Newell excerpt

This is a big show with the fans being back in attendance and I saw your relatively recent tweet where you’re saying MMA shorts that look like jorts or nah?

Are you gonna break out the jort shorts for this big show here?

“If they had jort shorts, I would wear them. But unfortunately, no fight company has fight shorts that look like jorts. And I think that they’re messing up. I think that they could be making a lot of money doing something like that. Maybe that’s something that I need to jump on after this. To see a lot more fighters rocking jorts. Actually, make a special dad edition cargo short-looking one. For all fathers that fight out there. With nice big fake looking pockets on it.”

Yaroslav Amosov excerpt

Obviously, you have a very decorated Combat Sambo background, multiple world titles on the mantle.

How much would a Bellator MMA championship mean in the context of all the championships you’ve garnered?

“Oh, man. It’s a big level. Because Sambo, yeah it’s good. But it’s a matter of sports. This is a professional, big level…It’s invaluable.”
