Benefit seminar planned for family of Sherry Schmidt, MMA fighter who tragically passed at age 29
Earlier this week the mixed martial arts community was shocked to hear of the tragic passing of 29-year-old amateur MMA fighter Sherry Schmidt.
Schmidt, a lifelong New Jersey resident, was involved in a motor vehicle accident on June 5, 2023, and passed away as result of her injuries.
She was a former AMA Motocross Track Champion. As a teen, she grew a passion for fitness and martial arts, resulting in being an amazing and impactful member of the MMA community. She was a member of Beacon MMA and WEBB Fitness MMA.
Schmidt held an 2-2 amateur mixed martial arts record and most recently competed for Maverick MMA in March, suffering a third-round defeat to Paige Wilcox at Maverick 22.
In her first MMA bout, Schmidt lost a unanimous decision to rising prospect Jani Rosario at Art of War Cage Fighting 19. She then followed that first defeat up with back-to-back unanimous decision victories inside the cage for Dead Serious MMA.
Beacon MMA will now hold a fundraiser to support Schmidt’s family. Several of the area’s best fighters and coaches will donate their time to the benefit seminar. (Info in poster below).
“On Saturday June 24th we will be hosting a MMA Seminar benefiting our beloved teammate, friend, and sister, Sherry’s family.
We will have a variety of guest coaches joining us!” a Facebook post read.
“Recommended donation to participate in the seminar is $30. If you are participating in the seminar please ensure you come with proper training gear (head gear, gloves, shin guards).
Small bites and drinks to follow.”
