Benson Henderson Talks Asian Hall of Fame Induction Pre-Bellator 273
Benson Henderson tests skills with Islam Mamedov at Bellator 273 on January 29th. This transpires at Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona, and broadcasts on Showtime.
The former WEC and UFC lightweight world champion will compete before a partisan crowd as the Glendale, AZ native readies for this Mamedov matchup.
The battle of top ten Bellator MMA ranked lightweights is a hugely consequential clash for the overall picture of the division in 2022. Henderson is presently ranked at number six while Mamedov is ranked number seven as of this writing.
I spoke with Henderson at the pre-fight media day. Excerpts from our chat are below.

Benson Henderson being inducted into the Asian Hall of Fame and a prickly relationship with social media
“Very blessed, very awesome. I was actually inducted into the Asian Hall of Fame like three-four years ago actually. I’m just not much of a look at me or show off my accolades type of person anyways. So I never posted a whole lot about it and never said a whole lot about it. But it’s an amazing award. Very appreciative of the Asian community and whatnot. But my sister-in-law took over my social media. I have a very hate-hate relationship with social media.”
“Everything is the end to our society. That sort of stuff, yada, yada, yada. So I kind of got off, got away from social media. Then my sister-in-law was able to talk me into letting her take over my account. So she’s been posting more of that kind of stuff. And that’s how it got out there, more people saw, and whatnot. But definitely a great award. Definitely very appreciative of it. And it does mean a lot to me, that I represent a community so strongly. They place so much faith and so much stock in me representing them. I love that.”
